Blockchain-Powered Electronic Health Record Management and Secure Medical Data Sharing Systems
Abstract
The management and sharing of Electronic Health Records (EHRs) have become critical challenges in modern healthcare systems due to increasing data volume, interoperability issues, and security concerns. Traditional centralized healthcare databases are vulnerable to cyberattacks, unauthorized access, and data manipulation, which can compromise patient privacy and trust. Blockchain technology offers a decentralized, immutable, and transparent framework for secure medical data management and sharing. This study explores blockchain-powered Electronic Health Record systems designed to enhance data integrity, security, and interoperability across healthcare providers. The proposed system utilizes blockchain’s distributed ledger technology to ensure that medical records are tamper-proof and accessible only to authorized stakeholders. Smart contracts are employed to automate access control, consent management, and data exchange processes between patients, hospitals, laboratories, and insurance providers. Additionally, integration with cloud computing and cryptographic techniques enhances scalability, privacy, and real-time data accessibility. The research also examines consensus mechanisms, encryption algorithms, and decentralized identity management in healthcare applications. Furthermore, the study discusses challenges such as scalability limitations, regulatory compliance, and integration complexity. The findings indicate that blockchain-based EHR systems significantly improve data security, transparency, and interoperability, making them a promising solution for next-generation healthcare information systems.
