Adaptive Cyber Defense Strategies for Sovereign Cloud Environments Using Autonomous AI for Enterprise Workloads
Abstract
Sovereign cloud environments are becoming increasingly important for enterprises that must maintain control over sensitive data, digital infrastructure, and operational processes while complying with national cybersecurity, privacy, and data-residency requirements. At the same time, enterprise workloads are becoming more distributed, dynamic, and difficult to protect through conventional security architectures. Autonomous artificial intelligence (AI) offers opportunities to strengthen cyber defense by continuously monitoring cloud environments, detecting anomalous behavior, correlating security events, and adapting defensive controls with limited human intervention. This paper examines adaptive cyber defense strategies for sovereign cloud environments using autonomous AI for enterprise workloads. It explores how AI-driven threat detection, behavioral analytics, automated incident response, policy enforcement, and continuous risk assessment can be integrated while preserving sovereignty, accountability, transparency, and human oversight. The study proposes a research methodology combining systematic literature analysis, architectural modeling, scenario-based evaluation, and quantitative assessment of security performance. Particular attention is given to challenges including adversarial AI, model drift, data governance, explainability, false positives, identity compromise, supply-chain threats, and cross-border data exposure. The proposed approach conceptualizes autonomous cyber defense as a closed-loop security system that senses environmental changes, evaluates risks, selects appropriate responses, and learns from outcomes. The study contributes a framework for designing resilient, adaptive, and sovereignty-aware AI security architectures for modern enterprise cloud workloads.
